BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Gov. Livingston High School has earned the No. 80 spot in New Jersey, as per U.S. News & World Report's latest 2024 Best High Schools rankings. With a student body of 941 and a student-to-teacher ratio of 11:1, the school's academic performance has garnered recognition on a statewide level.
Union County Magnet High School in Scotch Plains is ranked No. 1 in New Jersey and # 26 nationally.
U.S. News & World Report, renowned for its education rankings, unveiled its 2024 Best High Schools rankings today. The comprehensive assessment evaluates nearly 18,000 public high schools across the nation, providing valuable insights for parents and students alike.
LaMont Jones, Ed.D., managing editor of education at U.S. News, emphasized the significance of the rankings for families navigating educational decisions. He stated, “The 2024 Best High Schools rankings offer a starting point for parents to understand a school’s academic performance, whether it’s a prospective school or one that their child is already attending."
The rankings are based on various factors, including college readiness, state assessment proficiency and performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rates. These metrics collectively offer a comprehensive overview of each school's academic performance and effectiveness. Gov. Livingston overall score 90.25/100.
The highest-ranked public schools in the national rankings are those that demonstrate exceptional performance on state assessments in math, reading, and science. They also excel in underserved student performance, college readiness, curriculum breadth, and graduation rates. To implement this ranking methodology, U.S. News collaborated with RTI International, a global research firm, ensuring a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation process.
U.S. News & World Report partnered with RTI International, a global nonprofit social science research firm, to implement the ranking methodology. RTI executed the methodology based on the principles that a great high school must effectively serve all students and produce measurable academic outcomes across various performance indicators.
