Description
PARSIPPANY, NJ - The Parsippany Police have released the following scam alert to all residents:
A scam was recently reported to our department involving a tree-cutting service. The scammers are illegally soliciting victims, claiming to be performing tree removal services on behalf of the Township of Parsippany – Troy Hills for properties that were “likely to be condemned”. They are accepting money and not returning to perform the service. The incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Parsippany Police Department’s Investigative Branch at 973-263-4300.
The Township’s Parks & Forestry Department only contract outside companies for service to trees belonging to the Township. Although some Township trees may be located on residential property, the private company would not request payment for services. Should you be approached by these solicitors, please notify us immediately and try to obtain any descriptive information of the suspects and their vehicles.
Solicitors are required to obtain a license through Town Hall and display that license while soliciting (with certain exceptions). Solicitors who fail to follow this procedure are in violation of Local Ordinance 296-3 https://ecode360.com/5107870#5107870
